I visited an orchid greenhouse on a dreary winter day and it ignited a fire that had been damped down by the heaviness of winter. I painted these orchids every week until the beginning of spring, when I finished the painting and opened my studio door to a world in bloom. This painting feels like the bursts of color rushing in as winter and spring meet.
